Heath and Safety legislation; COSHH (Control of Substances Harardous to Heath) and LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation) are put in place to protect workers in dusty environments.

Dust can be a nuisance at some sizes and quantities but a real hazard if inhaled. Add to this toxic dust or fume at high temperatures and the need for dust extraction systems becomes obvious.

Dust extraction/dust collection systems are available as off the shelf units for common applications or can be custom designed to suit for more specific use. For example a packer filter unit could be served by a simple dust collector, wheras filtering a Hydrocloric acid gas stream at 500 degrees centigrade requires more specialist advice and equipment.

 

Dust is a generic term used for a wide range of dusts, fumes and sometimes flake and nuisance debris. In designing a dust control system, several factors have to be considered; how much dust is in the immediate environment, how harardous the dust is, whether the dust extraction is in a human working environment, how valuable the dust is, acceptable noise levels both at the extraction point and also at the exhaust to air - the list goes on.
